While Mommy waits at the car wash, Michael does some morning yoga by the fountain.

This was the last picture I took & the last "fun" outing we had until our power went out. The rest of the week has been spent either staying cool at our in-laws, errands, being on hold with Southern California Edison, wandering around WalMart and KMart and taking advantage of their ac, drinking tons of water, checking and rechecking that our food in the fridge hasn't spoiled, or being miserable in our hot home.

It has been quite some time since I've updated on what's been cooking in our kitchen. In all honesty, I haven't really cooked in almost 2 months. I haven't even done a "real" grocery trip in that long too. Between family get-togethers during the week AND weekends (with plenty of leftovers to take home) combined with our (my husband, Michael, and me) family bonding time exploring and trying new restaurants, I just haven't had to cook. Or grocery shop. Or even think of preparing a meal. Besides my morning coffee. And my husband's sacked lunch. Did I mention we've had a supply of donuts in our house for the past 2 weeks?

But there's always a "but". Last week, my husband sent me this recipe from the food blog That Food Cray. First of all, awesome blog name. Second, avocado, egg, AND cheese? I'm in pure heaven. Third, it's kid friendly. They'll be getting their protein, calcium, and antioxidants in a fun, gooey, colorful mess.

So I decided to bake this last night. Of course, we combined it with Ezekiel bread because we're such health nuts. (Sarcasm. Even that was given to us to try.) And my husband described it best- We were "avocado wasted".

Learning

Like many things these last 21 months, we worried about Michael's speech. And on the same token, he proved us wrong & is surprising us each day with new words.

Staples in his vocabulary are:
Apple
Ball
Car
Daddy
Elephant (Pronounced in his own unique way)
Fish
Go
Hi
Mama
No
O (Just the letter)
There
Bubbles
And "I did it!"

He can mimic words we say and puts together his ABC puzzle lightning fast. The ABC app has been mastered. He's showing increasing interest in numbers and shapes too.

We learned the hard way (through much anxiety) that every child learns at their own pace and comparing your child to others does no good. Of course, we watch for "warning signs" but even with that, you'll be surprised with what your child will learn and show you just the next day. I guess all those library trips, story times, and alphabet apps are all starting to pay off.

We're so proud of you little guy.
